Vindicat Students’ Union, Groningen

The students have gained an up-to-date Dutch house, the windows in its grand facade opening to the town and the market square. Its brick facing encloses and discloses as required, its presence enhancing the town. It is a grand club building that still manages to be a house. At its rear, the stepped facade creates a gradual transition to the adjoining buildings. The sixth level has been treated in a similar way to create a rooftop terrace with a penthouse. Making full use of the available construction envelope, the new building rises to its maximum height.
