Kerckebosch

Implementation of the plan started in 2012 and is scheduled to be completed in 2019. At the end of the reconstruction process 1000 apartments will have been replaced by an equal number of new housing units, albeit in a completely different setting, complemented by schools, healthcare facilities and a community centre.

The neighbourhood development company WOM Kerckebosch prepared an integral design together with residents, members of the business community and organizations from the area. In collaboration with WOM, wUrck drew up the designs for the entire area. These include the layout of the various wedges and the spatial composition of the main infrastructure.

Maintenance-friendly and sturdy materials have been deployed throughout. Local materials have been used wherever possible. Trunks of felled pine trees have acquired a new life as benches, picnic tables, bird boxes, play elements, bike racks and barriers.

A special element of the plan is the Energy Square, situated next to one of the local schools. With the use of innovative technologies a Wi-Fi hotspot has been created, powered among others by living plants and the energy floor of a soccer field.
