Sports facility, Wageningen

On the western edge of Wageningen, between Marijkeweg and Lawickse Allee, a new, sustainable sports facility has been realized. During the day the domain of physical education, in the evenings and at the weekend of Korfball Vereniging Wageningen. Multifunctional, suitable for a wide mix of indoor and outdoor sports.

The sports accommodation exists of sports fields and a sports hall where the use & preparations anticipate the ambition of the municipality & Korfball Association Wageningen for (top) sport.

The new sports facility of KV Wageningen is an example of circular construction. The visitors are taken into the sustainable character of the accommodation. The stands, the window frames, the doors and the wood paneling are the result of reuse: waste products that have been reused as raw material and can soon be reused. Most of the steel construction in the sports hall is untreated. These parts are exposed to air conditions and have started to erode slightly. By using bare products consisting of a few raw materials, this translates into an image that strengthens and enriches the identity of the circular sports hall. This provides a clear core message: it is not only about healthy sports now, but also about a healthy ecological footprint in the future.

Reuse

Demountable construction: the main supporting construction and facade construction are built up as separate components (main construction, inner boxes, insulation and outer boxes). Adjusting frames are equipped with rubber strips for the gap seal, so that all components can be dismantled and separated from each other.

Remanufacture

For all interior works two types of wood are used that are a waste product from another industry, visible & characteristic of this sports hall. Reuse with a high level of visibility at interior level.
