Primary school Tanouan Ibi in Mali

The school is a sustainable building at the edge of a village in the vast plain of the Dogon country in Mali. It consists of three 7 x 9 meters classrooms for 180 pupils. Two porches are the structural support for the 7 m barrel vault. They also provide shade from direct sunlight for the public and a meaningful place for the elders of the community. Using HCEB-bricks for floor, walls and roof leads to a supple integration of the building into the environment. Those bricks are non-fired and produced using the soil on site which reduces production costs and the environmental degradation immensely.
