Laboratory for Infectious Diseases, Groningen

An impressive landscape has been created in the entrance hall. Upstairs, double staircases reveal a surprising seating platform. With a wink at the Sistine Chapel, a painted ceiling creates the illusion of infinity. Technique and installations have been fully incorporated in the building. Everything has been done carefully and consequentially, from the large scale up to and including the detailing.

This design has freed the lab both on the inside and the outside of its introvert, hygienic image. The expressive building is a refreshing view of the typology of the laboratory.=
