Faralda Crane Hotel, Amsterdam

A careful restoration plan, combined with an extension designed as a sculpture formed around the skeleton of the crane. Large signal red colored platen of steel, beams and columns visibly separated from the existing steel frame. The sculpture is inspired by the aesthetics of (light)ships, drilling platforms and buoys; welded steel plates, windows put in steel, large hatches and portholes. Manufactured, raw and straightforward. The crane has been restored and returned to its original color palette.
