Cycle celebration, Heereveen

Cycle celebration is a circular bicycle kiosk on the Molenplein in Heerenveen. The kiosk is largely made of rejected and / or recycled materials.

Not only traditional building materials have been used, but also other, unexpected materials. The air-conditioned part of the kiosk is a recycled sea container with re-use steel profiles. The most important material for the appearance are rejected bicycle frames from Batavus. The frames are stacked in a surprising way.

Reuse

The design is based on the idea of ​​expressing the profession of bicycle repairman and the love for the bicycle. The idea arose to use residual material from the local bicycle industry in the design. A second life for bicycle parts that, because they are made of aluminum or stainless steel, have a long service life. This vision was presented to Batavus with the request for cooperation. Batavus decided to accept the invitation and become the supplier of the building blocks for this design; bicycle frames. A great opportunity to still use rejected bicycle frames and a "crowning achievement for the bicycle".

Remanufacture

The eye-catcher of the kiosk is the remanufacture of the rejected bicycle frames from Batavus. The frames had a minor technical defect and were therefore no longer safe to use as a bicycle. By ingeniously stacking the bicycle frames, we have designed a spectacular sculpture for the bicycle repairer. The facade as a billboard for the bicycle repairer of Heerenveen!
